Serves: 4 to 6
Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake time: 16 minutes
Scones
2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsalted cold butter, cubed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Chocolate Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 - 5 tablespoons half & half cream
pinch of salt
Egg Wash
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon milk or cream
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400F.
In a large bowl, whisk first five ingredients.
Add in the cold cubed butter and mix until the dough resembles coarse crumbs.
Add in the remaining ingredients, except for the chocolate chips. Mix until a dough forms. You can use a mixer or your hands.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Sprinkle some flour over your countertop and place your dough on top. Form the dough into an 8-inch disc. Cut the dough into 8 triangles.
Make the egg wash. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and the milk. Brush each scone with the egg wash.
Bake the scones for about 16 minutes.
Allow them to cool for about 15 minutes.
For the glaze, whisk all the ingredients in a bowl, until smooth.
Drizzle glaze over scones and allow the glaze to set for a few minutes. These are best served warm!
